About Dogwood Decor

Hey! Welcome to Dogwood Decor!

I'm Angela, my husband Scott and I have two beautiful little girls, Ainsley 8, and Harper 3.  I also work as a two year old preschool teacher.  We live in Raleigh, NC.  I have a degree in Residential Design and love any chance I get to decorate a room!

I previously wrote a blog, My Silly Life, and kind of went AWOL.

We ended up moving to my husband's childhood house, right across the street from his mother and the move along with other things kind of took the place of that blog.

So, I decided to re-brand and start Dogwood Decor for several reasons.

On February 1st, 2016 I was hospitalized with several severe seizures and was touch and go for some time.  I was diagnosed with neuropathy in my hands and feet.  So, I pretty much felt like my entire body was injected with novacaine with excruciating pain in my feet.  I left the hospital after a week and was sent home with LOADS of meds and a walker.  The doctors had no clue what caused the seizures or neuropathy.

For the next month and a half I was pretty much on bed rest.  Any time I had to walk, I had to use the walker to keep as much pressure off of my feet because of the pain and also because my legs had lost so much muscle mass.

After seeing every doctor under the sun and pretty much being drained of blood, my doctors switched up my medication.  Once finding the right dosage and combination of drugs, one day I got up and the pain wasn't nearly as bad!

It seemed almost miraculous!  The pain medication I was on allowed me to move around (almost) pain free.  This allowed me to gain muscle in my legs, which in turn allowed me to get rid of my old lady walker and switch to an old lady cane (whoop whoop)!

It has now been almost four months since I was hospitalized and you would never know I wasn't able to walk a few months ago.  I am still on several medications for the nerve pain and for the seizures.  I am still a little slow and have to take stairs slowly.

During all of this time I realized that I had basically been given a second chance at life and I am going to make the best of it. Dogwood Decor was created while I was on bed rest moping about everything that needed to be done in my home.  The dogwood tree is one of my favorite trees.  It also represents the cross and Jesus' sacrifice to give us new life.  Nothing else represents my outlook on life right now than the Dogwood.

Well, now that I have officially depressed you, I would like to tell you what Dogwood Decor is really all about!

Dogwood Decor is going to document my journey as I redecorate and remodel my home with TONS of DIY's and tips to save money, as well as bits of my life along the way!

In addition to writing this blog, I am in the process of opening my shop, Dogwood Decor!

I hope you enjoy reading and choose to stick around for a while!
